Ocufolin^® forte – Food for special medical purposes

For dietary management of vitamin B metabolism disorders in persons aged 40 plus resulting in increased homocysteine levels and consequently reduced microcirculation in eye diseases.

Ocufolin^® forte is specifically designed to compensate for the metabolic disorder of the B vitamins, to provide nutrients that are often insufficiently absorbed in eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR). In these diseases, not only is the absorption of nutrients impaired, but also the microcirculation in the eye, which is crucial for the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the eye tissue. Ocufolin^® forte, as a food for special medical purposes, actively supports the maintenance of the nutrient supply and addresses the increased need for micronutrients caused by the disease.

A disorder of the B-vitamin metabolism, especially of L-methylfolate, is reflected in an increased homocysteine level (read more under Homocysteine). The determination of this biomarker in the blood is therefore recommended.

Ocufolin^® forte is not a medicine, but a food for special medical purposes. These are developed for patients who are unable to absorb, digest, metabolise or excrete nutrients to a sufficient extent through their normal diet or food supplements due to a metabolic disorder caused by a disease. This is particularly important if you are taking medication.
